The Mazda CX-5 has a well-earned reputation for injecting some fun-to-drive flavor into the practical and predictable compact-SUV segment. The new 2026 CX-5 will hopefully retain that same spirit while addressing concerns about the previous model’s cramped interior, as it’s considerably longer and a bit wider than the outgoing model. That means more leg- and headroom for rear-seat passengers and increased cargo room; even the door openings are larger, says Mazda. The new CX-5 will launch with the carryover 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with a six-speed automatic and standard all-wheel drive; Mazda says a hybrid is on the horizon for 2027, but hasn’t yet confirmed whether or not the previous model’s turbocharged 2.5-liter four will return. Stylistically, the exterior and interior display an updated version of Mazda's distinctive design language that makes it look more upscale than the rest of the crossover crowd.
